Why now
The middle of this chain used to be copy-paste. Now each hop has a real hand-off:
- Descript's Underlord and Create clips find and cut 1–20 clips from a long composition from a single prompt, with layouts and captions. (Create clips)
- Buffer opened its API to every plan (Jun 29, 2026, Free included) and ships an official MCP server that Claude connects to with OAuth. Its
create_posttool can save straight to drafts. (Buffer MCP, Claude + Buffer) - Claude's custom connectors take that MCP URL directly, so no Zapier step in the middle.
Who it's for
People with one strong long-form asset a week (a podcast, a customer call you're allowed to use, a webinar, a founder voice memo) and a social presence that's quieter than it should be.
What you get
From one 20–60 minute recording:
- A cleaned-up master (filler words and long pauses removed, Studio Sound on).
- 5 vertical clips, 30–60 seconds each, captioned.
- About 10 drafts in Buffer across LinkedIn, X, Threads or Bluesky. Each is written for its channel, quotes the actual recording, and is tagged with the clip it pairs with. Nothing publishes until you approve it.
You'll need
| Tool | Plan you need | Current price (Oct 2026) | Link |
|---|---|---|---|
| Descript | Hobbyist (10 media hrs/mo, 400 AI credits, Underlord, 1080p). Free is 1 media hr and 100 one-time credits | Hobbyist $16/mo billed annually or $24 monthly | descript.com/pricing |
| Claude | Pro or above (custom connectors) | Pro $20/mo, or $17/mo billed annually | claude.com/pricing |
| Buffer | Free works (3 channels, 10 scheduled posts per channel, API and MCP). Essentials for unlimited scheduling | $0; Essentials $6/channel/mo ($5 annual) | buffer.com/pricing |
Setup
1. Clean the recording (Descript, 10 min)
Import the recording into a new project. Open Underlord and ask:
Remove filler words and pauses longer than 1.5 seconds, apply Studio Sound,
and fix any obvious transcription errors in names: <list names and product terms>.
Don't cut any sentences.
Read the transcript once at 2x. You're checking names and jargon, because everything downstream quotes this text.
2. Cut the clips (Descript, 10 min)
AI Tools → Repurpose → Create clips. Choose 5 clips, 30–60 seconds, a vertical layout, and a goal such as one concrete, contrarian insight per clip; must make sense without context. Clips land in a Clips from <composition> folder. Rename each C1…C5 and add captions, then export.
3. Export the transcript (Descript, 2 min)
Export the cleaned transcript as text with timestamps, and save it as transcript.txt.
4. Connect Buffer to Claude (Claude, 5 min)
In Claude: Customize → Connectors → Add custom connector, name it Buffer, and use the URL https://mcp.buffer.com/mcp. Approve access in the Buffer window that opens. Make sure the channels you want are connected in Buffer first (Free allows 3).
5. Write a voice file once (Claude, 10 min)
Paste 5–10 of your best past posts into a Claude Project (or a normal chat) and ask:
Describe my writing voice in 8 bullet rules a ghostwriter could follow: sentence
length, openings I use, words I never use, how I end posts, emoji policy.
Edit the rules and save them as the Project's instructions.
6. Generate the drafts (Claude, 10 min)
In that Project, attach transcript.txt and paste:
From this transcript, write social posts for the week. Rules:
- 5 posts pair with clips C1–C5 (I'll tell you each clip's start time below).
Each post must quote one line from that clip verbatim.
- 5 posts stand alone: one insight each, from other parts of the transcript.
- Channels: LinkedIn (max 1,200 chars, line breaks, no hashtags beyond 2),
X/Threads/Bluesky (max 280 chars).
- Never invent facts, numbers or customer names that aren't in the transcript.
- Follow my voice rules.
Show me all 10 first. Don't touch Buffer until I say "send to Buffer".
Clip start times: C1 <mm:ss>, C2 <mm:ss>, C3 <mm:ss>, C4 <mm:ss>, C5 <mm:ss>
Edit in chat until they're right. Then:
Send to Buffer: create each post as a DRAFT (saveToDraft: true) on the matching
channel. Do not schedule or publish anything. Prefix each draft with [C1]…[C5] or
[S] so I know which clip to attach.
7. Attach clips and approve (Buffer, 10 min)
In Buffer, open Drafts, attach each exported clip to its tagged post, delete the tag, and schedule. Buffer's own AI Assistant (free on every plan) is handy for a last-minute shorter variant.
Time to set up
About an hour the first time (estimate, not timed), mostly the voice file and Descript learning curve. After that, about 30 minutes a week per recording.
Cost
- Minimum: Descript Hobbyist $16/mo + Claude Pro $17/mo, both billed annually = $33/mo, with Buffer Free. Billed monthly: $24 + $20 = $44/mo.
- Posting daily on more than 3 channels: + Buffer Essentials at $6/channel/mo ($5 annual).
Prices are list prices as of Oct 14, 2026.
Gotchas
- Underlord credits are non-deterministic. Descript says the same request can cost different amounts. Hobbyist's 400 credits don't roll over, and top-ups are Creator and Business only, so batch your Underlord asks.
- Buffer Free caps the queue, not the drafts. You can hold 10 scheduled posts per channel at a time. Drafts are unlimited, so schedule as you go.
- Some channels only get reminders. Instagram personal profiles and Facebook groups are notification-publishing only in Buffer. The post won't go out on its own.
- Quoting other people. If the recording includes a guest or customer, get their OK before their words become your posts.
- Draft, don't publish. The prompt asks for drafts only, but it's a prompt. Keep publishing approval in your hands until you've watched it behave for a few weeks.
Remix
- Newsletter instead of social: ask Claude for a 400-word issue from the same transcript and paste it into your email tool.
- Weekly cadence on autopilot: a Claude scheduled task can pick up a transcript from a shared folder every Friday and create the drafts. You still approve in Buffer.
- YouTube Shorts: Buffer publishes Shorts, so the clips can go there too with the LinkedIn caption trimmed.
Freshness log
